To walk Vitozza to Sorano.
Experience the nature and culture of the Etruscans in Southern Tuscany.
Will you wander with my red shoes through 2500 years of history?
What could be more fun than to let yourself be taken along with “Follow the Red Shoes” through the nature of southern Tuscany, 25 km from Bolsena? Trackless and surprising in places you wouldn’t otherwise go? Enjoy the smells, sounds and colors of nature. Without having to pay attention to the road.
We start like real locals with a cafe or cappuccino in bar Centrale, a small bar in St. Quirico. Then we do some shopping for lunch at the local bakery and greengrocer, and then go out together.
We walk through a beautiful hilly mysterious and wooded area. Clambering and descending through sunken roads, we follow the rocky reefs of the ancient Etruscan city, Vitozza.
A walk along caves with ancient stories. Stories about the Etruscans who lived here. Where they housed their animals, made spaces for their farming tools, olive oil and wine.
Atop the plateau of old Vitozza are the remains of a 15th-century church and two castles.
A little further on we visit a columbarium from the Etruscan / Roman era. We descend via ancient stone hollow roads (Via cava) and visit the source and the waterfall of the Spring river. Some can’t wait and take a fresh shower under the waterfall.
We will eventually cross Spring, and from there continue over a field to Via Cava di San Rocco, a hollow road from the time of the Etruscans. The view of the breathtakingly beautiful Sorano is fantastic. We have lunch near the river de Lente. After lunch there will be plenty of opportunity to visit Sorano, and then walk back to St. Qurico.
