𝙻𝚞𝚗𝚐𝚘𝚕𝚊𝚐𝚘 of Bolsena to 𝙶𝚛𝚘𝚝𝚝𝚎 𝚍𝚒 𝙲𝚊𝚜𝚝𝚛𝚘

Culinary, Blog

Today I take you to from the lungolago of Bolsena to Grotte di Castro a small town of 3000 inhabitants on the north side, a bit more inland from the lago di Bolsena. Especially enjoy the beautiful surroundings when you go to Grotte di Castro. The view over the lake of Bolsena and especially the surprise when you arrive and drive Grotte di Castro out of the tuff plateau before you. Meraviglioso as the Italians would say so beautifully.

We thought we were real potato eaters in the Netherlands! As we are proud of Vincent van Gogh’s painting “the potato eaters” from 1885, the 3000 inhabitants of Grotte are proud of their Sagra della Patata (the potato festival) around Ferragosto (15 August)

is also my guest teacher during the cooking workshop in the wine walking week.

We follow the Etruscan origins of Grotte di Castro and the Santa Maria del Suffragio Church.

Grotte di Castro is named after the cave in which the inhabitants hid during the Lombard invasions.

Photographer #RitaBurla thank you for your beautiful photo of Grotte di Castro with the flowers and the view over the lake.
