Here’s the weekly program for the hiking holiday in Etruscan Italy:
Day 1: Arrival in Bolsena from 4:00 PM onwards. Follow the Red Shoes welcomes you with a delicious local wine and tasty appetizers. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at a typical Italian restaurant in Bolsena.
Day 2: Relax and recover from your journey. You have the option to explore the town of Bolsena at your own pace.
Day 3: St. Quirico – Sorano and back (5 hours). Start your exciting first day of hiking from the village of St. Quirico through a beautiful area to the impressive plateau village of Sorano. Along the way, explore the ancient Etruscan city of Vitozza with its homes, caves, and remnants of a 15th-century church and two castles. Descend through ancient stone paths, visit the source and waterfall of the Lente River, and walk through fields to the Via Cava di San Rocco, an Etruscan-era sunken road. Enjoy lunch near the Lente River and explore Sorano before returning to St. Quirico.
Day 4: Sovana – Pitigliano and back (5 hours). Follow ancient Etruscan roads and pass by ancient tombs that have been there for thousands of years. Have lunch by an ancient water spot and visit the beautiful town of Pitigliano, perched proudly on a rock. Explore Pitigliano’s narrow streets, fountains, and gates before returning to Sovana.
Day 5: Silent walk to Monte Bisenzio and the archaeological park Citta del Tuffo near Sovana (5 hours). Start your day early with a silent sunrise walk to Monte Bisenzio, a unique Etruscan site on Lake Bolsena. Have breakfast at this special location before heading to Sovana. Explore the impressive necropolis at the archaeological park Citta del Tuffo, with many tombs and burial chambers, including the famous Tomba Ildebranda from the 3rd century BC. Enjoy a picnic by the Lente River.
Day 6: Le pyramida Etrusca (4 to 5 hours). Today, venture into North Lazio and hike through a magical forest with waterfalls, deep ravines, and visit “le pyramide Etrusca.” Enjoy the peacefulness and purity of the area as you explore these ancient sites. Visit Santa Cecilia with its ruins of the church and pepperini stone tombs. After a short break, continue hiking to the highlight of the day, “le pyramida Etrusca,” a religious site carved out of a huge rock. Learn about its discovery in 2008 by farmer Salvatore and its significance. Return to the car via a sunken road with traces of a Roman pottery.
Day 7: Eremo di PC (hermitage cave) and Eremo del chiusa del Vescovo. Today’s hike takes you through an area once visited by the Etruscans, Templars, and pilgrims. Explore an old hermitage next to a beautiful natural waterfall and enjoy a picnic by the Fiora River. Visit the second hermitage cave in the opposite valley before returning.
Day 8: Departure day.
