Curious who I am? I cordially invite you to read more about me via my blog.
Last summer I had an interview with Libelle magazine. Article Libelle and at the beginning of this year in the magazine Zin.
Diego Tomelli.
Diego is certainly a great charismatic and enthusiastic teacher.
Diego started his career in England. In addition to teaching, he worked with some of England’s most prestigious stained glass studios.
Back in Italy, he started his own glass workshop in 2006 IKO studio .
His dream came true with his own professional studio in Bolsena where craft is central.
Diego teaches all over the world and his students come from all over the world.
Diego speaks English, Italian and Spanish.
Diego: “For me, the magic of stained glass comes from the way colored glass is transformed by light, the way the tiny bubbles trapped in the glass give it movement and sparkle. The magic becomes complete once paint is applied to the glass, creating delicate shadows, muting the light in some places and emphasizing in others. This art form is unique. It has transparency in its soul and this becomes glorious and radiant with light “
Description
Our starting point and source of inspiration for this week is the area surrounding Lake Bolsena. An ancient cultural area with the mystery of the Etruscans, beautiful natural beauty and beautiful Italian towns. You will experience the images that make the area so unique.
The course is for both beginners and advanced students. All necessary materials are available.
Our guest teacher for this week is Diego Tomelli. In a small group of a maximum of four people, each works on his / her own panel. Attention will also be paid to the use of materials, colors and techniques.
Diego’s enthusiasm will stimulate you and increase your pleasure in glass painting.
You will not only return home with beautiful memories, but also with a unique homemade glass panel.

What are you going to learn
You are asked to give an idea before the course starts. What would you like to make and is that a realistic design?
The idea is discussed in advance with Diego via email. Once in the studio, you get to work on your design. This can be worked out by hand or with the help of a plotter. Your design will be enlarged to actual size.
Cutting lines
You will learn how to create and follow cutting lines on the design. Determining the correct thickness of the cutting lines.
Glass cutting
You will learn how to cut glass using a traditional glass cutter. Then refine the edges of the cut glass with a grinder.
Glass painting
You paint each piece of glass using traditional techniques and using traditional pigments and enamelling specifically for the art of stained glass.
Lead strips
You learn to assemble the individual pieces of glass in the panel using lead strips and to weld them with a soldering iron.
Cementation
To strengthen and waterproof the stained glass panel, you are going to cement the work with a special putty.
You will learn the recipe that Diego uses to make the special putty to cement stained glass.
How to apply it to the panel and how to clean it.
At the end, the panel is polished with a soft brush to darken the lead and solder joints.
