Diego Tomelli.

Diego Tomelli

Diego is certainly a great charismatic and enthusiastic teacher.
Diego started his career in England. In addition to teaching, he worked with some of England’s most prestigious stained glass studios.
Back in Italy, he started his glass workshop.
His dream came true with his professional studio in Bolsena where craft is central.
Diego teaches all over the world and his students come from all over the world.
Diego speaks English, Italian, and Spanish.

Diego: “For me, the magic of stained glass comes from the way colored glass is transformed by light, the way the tiny bubbles trapped in the glass give it movement and sparkle. The magic becomes complete once the paint is applied to the glass, creating delicate shadows, muting the light in some places and emphasizing it in others. This art form is unique. It has transparency in its soul and this becomes glorious and radiant with light “

Description

What are you going to learn
Diego is going to share his knowledge with you this course and you will create a stained glass panel of your dreams.
You are asked to give an idea before the course starts. What would you like to make and is that a realistic design?
The idea is discussed in advance with Diego via email. Once in the studio, you get to work on your design. This can be worked out by hand or with the help of a plotter. Your design will be enlarged to actual size.

Cutting lines
You will learn how to create and follow cutting lines on the design. Determining the correct thickness of the cutting lines.

Glass cutting
You will learn how to cut glass using a traditional glass cutter. Then refine the edges of the cut glass with a grinder.

Glass painting
You paint each piece of glass using traditional techniques and using traditional pigments and enamelling specifically for the art of stained glass.

Lead strips
You learn to assemble the individual pieces of glass in the panel using lead strips and to weld them with a soldering iron.

Cementation
To strengthen and waterproof the stained glass panel, you are going to cement the work with a special putty.
You will learn the recipe that Diego uses to make the special putty to cement stained glass.
How to apply it to the panel and how to clean it.

At the end, the panel is polished with a soft brush to darken the lead and solder joints.

Accommodation

Palazzo : You spend the night in a beautifully situated palazzo in Bolsena. Within walking distance of the studio and Lake Bolsena. Centrally located in the town of Bolsena.
