Day to day program. The days on which the program is offered may vary due to circumstances, but essentially we follow the program below. We are flexible with regard to wishes and proposals for this week, but these must fit within the program and budget.
The mornings are all about working in your diary and discovering together and wandering through beautiful Rome. Every place has a story, a story, a legend. We visit the place where we will meet Kelly in the afternoon after lunch and go to work.
Day 1: Saturday
Arrival day: From 4 pm. Recover from the journey and in the evening a joint welcome dinner in a cozy Roman trattoria.
Day 2: Sunday: Ancient Rome.
After breakfast we start our Urban sketching safari in ancient Rome. We will work at the Colosseum (the largest amphitheater from Roman times) and the Roman Forum. In the heyday of the Roman Empire, the forum was the political, legal, religious and commercial center of the city. We record Ancient Rome from the imperial period in our diary.
We have a picnic somewhere along the way with our own homemade packed lunch.
Day 3: Monday: Jewish Ghetto & Piazza Navona.
In the morning we will go to the Jewish Ghetto and visit the Piazza Navona.
We have a picnic in a park near the Largo di Torre Argentina (the cat forum) and after lunch the first sketching stop. Fontana delle Tartarughe , in other words the Turtle Fountain. This fountain is located in Piazza Mattei and is arguably the most beautiful fountain in Rome.
Then we go to Piazza Navona. In the middle of this Piazza, Bernini’s Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi, the Four Rivers Fountain, shines. There are also two fountains at both ends of the square. Beautiful examples of sculpture by Jacopo della Porta, each with their own story.
Day 4: Tuesday: Castel Sant’Angelo and St. Peter’s
While sketching and drawing, we will visit St. Peter’s and its beautiful square. We take our drawing spot along the Tiber, at the Castel Sant’Angelo and the Angel Bridge. It is also a lot of fun to observe and record the people, tourists in the square. In short, an inspiring painting day.
We eat our own lunch along the Tiber.
Day 5: Wednesday:
After breakfast there is the opportunity to do your own thing. Do you want to enter Rome or continue with your diary?
Day 6: Thursday: Villa Borghese and Fellini
Our Urban sketching safari today takes us to Villa Borghese a public park in Rome. If you want to work with something new, be inspired by everything the 80-hectare city park has to offer. In addition to the landscaped gardens, various museums, pavilions and sculptures also have a beautiful view of Rome. But of course you can also work out all the material from the past days.
A wonderful place to enjoy our lunch.
At the end of the afternoon we descend via Piazza del Popolo to Via Margutta past Fellini’s house, the maestro of Italian cinema. For Fellini, Rome’s house Via Condotti was a long corridor and Piazza del Popolo a drawing-room.
Day 7: Friday: Trastevere.
Across the street from the Tiber. Characteristic Italian streets and the center of the district the fountain at the Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere. The surrounding terraces and the activity make it a nice final Urban sketching safari day. We conclude with dinner in one of the Roman restaurants in the area.
Day 8: Saturday Departure
The Urban sketching safari has flown by and after breakfast our roads will part at 10:00 am.
